Eddie Coello, 40, was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for strangling his wife to death, reports the New York Times.

Prosecutors claim he strangled Tina Adovasio at their Throgs Neck home in March of 2011, weeks after she filed for divorce.

Coello, who had previously faced charges of domestic violence against Adovasio, served as a police officer from 1996 until 2000, when he resigned.
