Bronx Charter School Named Blue Ribbon School

The Bronx Charter School for Excellence has been named a National Blue Ribbon School, one of the the highest honors awarded to schools by the U.S. Department of Education.

The Parchester school, at 1960 Benedict Avenue, is one of three charter schools in the state to earn the distinction, the New York Daily News reports. On recent state math and English scores, more than half of its students in grades 3 through 8 achieved a Level 3 or 4.

The Department of Education will honor the 219 public and 50 private schools throughout the nation to achieve Blue Ribbon status this year at a Nov. 12 ceremony in Washington, D.C.
