A day after 16-year-old Bronx teen, Jose Webster, was gunned down, borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. spent knocking on doors to promote his gun control initiative. Along with Assembly Member Marcos Crespo, City Council Member Fernando Cabrera and volunteers, Diaz took the “Peace in our Streets Initiative” to the James Monroe Houses in the Soundview section of the Bronx.

Jose Webster had just turned 16. He didn’t have a rap sheet and affiliated with gangs and, by all accounts, was a smart kid. But last Thursday, he’d barely started walking his girlfriend home when 15 bullets killed him, New York Daily News.
His wake will be held on on Sept. 22 at the Parkchester Funeral Home.
Webster’s mother, Lesly Arzu, a Honduran immigrant told the Daily News all about her son, who liked to read and play video games.
Messages had been scrawled on the concrete walls of the lobby of the building where Jose lived with Arzu and three siblings, the Daily News reports.

Thursday night a young Bronx man was walking his girlfriend home when he was fatally shot. The New York Post, on September 16, reported that Jose Webster, age 16, was walking down Teller Avenue when two men approached him and picked a fight. The fight resulted in a shot to Webster’s chest. Webster’s girlfriend, Aniik Wallace, crouched over his body and begged him to stay with her, witnesses said. Webster died at Lincoln hospital. His mother and Wallace are planning a candlelight vigil for Webster this Sunday at the basketball court on Webster Avenue at 169th Street in the Bronx.
