“To Be Heard” film documentary features University Heights High School, NY Daily News

Words are at the heart of “To Be Heard,” a dynamic, award-winning documentary opening Wednesday at the IFC, the New York Daily News reports.

Focusing on three students at University Heights high school in the Bronx, the movie shows how a unique program called Power Writing combines spoken-word poetry, performance and literacy advancement to give teens the tools necessary to tell their stories.

Pearl Quick, Anthony Pittman and Karina Sanchez, were filmed overcoming personal and academic hurdles.
