Against the odds, the Bronx zoo now has a baby okapi calf, a shy relative of the giraffe, not documented until early last century. The zoo’s proud addition, baby M’bura, has made it past its first delicate months and is now on view for the public, the NY Times reports.

Bronx resident Karriem Barrow has been found guilty in federal court of robbing banks and restaurants in the Bronx, and in Westchester and Putnam counties last year. Police found a man shot in the chest near Bainbridge Avenue yesterday. Medical responders took him to St. Barnabas Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival, according to the New York Police Department. No arrests have been made at this time and the investigation is ongoing.
