Nearly half of NYC’s failing schools are in the Bronx

A newly released list issued by the New York State Department of Education states 53 schools in the Bronx are in need of shaping up or risk closure, the Bronx Times reported.

A total of 123 schools, ranging from elementary to high school, are on the list. Among the 43 percent of schools in the Bronx are high schools Christopher Columbus, John F. Kennedy, Lehman, Dewitt Clinton, Banana Kelly, Samuel Gompers, Grace Dodge, Jane Addams and Alfred Smith.

According to the Bronx Times, the city has until next month to develop plans for the at-risk schools.
