Subway candy seller makes $150 a day


Alex “Tracks” McFarlane makes his living by hawking candy on the D train every day. The 25-year-old candy seller makes about $150 from selling M&M’s and Welch’s Fruit Snacks fove hours a day, considerably higher than the average Bronxite’s annual income of $17,301.

McFarlane said that selling candy “kept him off the streets for 14 years,” and earned him enough to support his three children.

Service returns to two Bronx subway stops, NY1

Relief came for riders in the Bronx Friday when they heard that the Metropolitan Transportation Authority is finally returning service at the Elder and St. Lawrence Avenue stops on the IRT after eight months of construction, NY1 reports.

The stations should be open Sunday at 5:00 p.m.

The work at the Elder and St. Lawrence stations was part of a five station project that’s bringing new lighting, public announcement systems, platforms, mezzanines and canopies.

Police search for Bronx ‘Subway Slasher,’ NBC New York

Police have released identification details of a woman accused of slashing two other 4-train passengers, both young women, in the face two separate times, reports NBC New York. There doesn’t appear to be a motive to the crimes, which is worrying other young women riding the train, they report.

Both times, the alleged slasher was last ween wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, a thick green bracelet and translucent plastic gloves, police said.

The first incident happened on Sept. 6 on the uptown 4 train near East 170th Street, according to police. The next was six days later on the downtown 4 train near Mount Eden Avenue.
